Take a powerful action. Make some powerful noise.

Sign up, recruit your family and friends, and help us send 50,000 messages to the Senate. Why? To build political support for a new bipartisan Senate bill - the Energize Africa Act - that will help African governments bring electricity to 50 million people for the very first time. The more messages we send, the harder we’ll be to ignore.

Life without power

It’s a shocking fact, but 70% of people in sub-Saharan Africa don’t have access to electricity. This issue is repeatedly cited by Africans as a top concern because:

Mothers give birth in hospitals without power.

img

Life-saving vaccines can’t be refrigerated.

img

Farmers lose their harvest to spoilage.

img

Students can’t study at night without candles or flashlights.

Families cook over toxic indoor open fires.

Streets aren’t safe for women and children after dark.

What you need to know to get started

How do I sign-up for the Power Project?

It’s simple: click the sign-up button. Then enter your information and tell us how many people you’ll recruit to send a message to their senators (they can do it all online). Keep track of your goal - and spread the word - on your very own personalized page. The top three message collectors - and another two people chosen at random - will come to DC for a special “Power Trip” this September.

Why advocate for electricity?

When you flip a switch, the lights turn on. But what if there was no switch? Imagine the panic you’d feel arriving at a hospital without power. The food that would spoil if you didn’t have a working refrigerator. The dark, unsafe roads you’d have to travel with no street lights. No one should have to live without power. And this bill will help make sure 50 million people in Africa get electricity for the very first time.

Why do messages to the Senate matter?

The Senate is considering a bill (the Energize Africa Act) that will help African countries provide electricity to millions of people - and at no expense to US taxpayers. So we need to show our senators that there’s a LOT of support for this bill. So we’ve set a goal - 50,000 messages to the Senate - and we need your help to reach it. We know it can be done - ONE members helped get a similar bill passed in the House of Representatives. Now it’s time to focus on the Senate!
